11-26-02B Chinese export botanical painting on
pith (rice) paper centering on an elaborately constructed basket
arranged with a bouquet of mixed flowers. These customarily were
painted in groups of 12 as part of an album of floral still life
or scenic gouaches made for the Wesern trade, during the first
half of the 19th century. Attributed to the artist Sunqua, by
author and China trade expert Carl Crossman. Matted with silk
on museum mountings and framed under UV museum glass. See: "The

paper of the multi colored Japanese Pheasant with accompanying
notes by John Gould. The work was drawn on stone and hand colored
by Jos. Wolf and Richter for the J. Gould edition "Birds
of Asia", London, 1850-83. Framed in a faux rosewood ogee
molding of the mid-1800s with museum mount and UV glass. 14.75"
