of the Sierra Nevada Range, King's River Canyon. Signed: Burlin
(Harry Paul). Born NYC 1886; died l969. This canvas was painted
during his Western period while a member of the Santa Fe School,
1911-13. The artist is listed as a landscape and mural painter,
educator and lithographer. Studied: National Academy of Design,
NY, and in England. Member: American Society Painters & Sculptors;
Gallery Assoc. NY; Salon des Independents & Salon D'Automne,
both in Paris. Woodstock AA, SC; International Society, AL. Exhibitions:
youngest exhibitor in the 1913 New York Armory Show; Pennsylvania
Academy, FA, 1915, 1929-68; Whitney Museum of Am Art, 1926-65;
Art Institute of Chicago, 1932-47, 1960; Corcoran Gallery of
Art, 1935-63; Carnegie Institute 1936-46; MoMA 1945; others.
Works in the permanent museum collections of MoMA, Whitney and

on paper figure studies by American Impressionist Jessie Pixley
Lacey (1865-1957). Born Charlotte, MI. Before the turn of the
century she studied figure drawing at the School of the Art Institute
of Chicago and the Academie Julian, Paris. These studies were
executed during this period. Her work was exhibited in the Paris
Salon of 1900 before she returned to America. She exhibited some
29 works at the Art Institute of Chicago by 1912, and had shown
at the St. Louis Exposition as well as in New York and Washington
DC. She taught figure drawing at the School of the Art Institute
of Chicago during the 1920s and '30s. |

11-10-2004 The Burgis view of the south prospect
of colonial New York. Originally engraved 1719 and revised by
Bakewell in 1746. This edition was reduced from the revised work
and printed in the London Magazine in August 1761. Hand colored
at a later date. The work has been mounted on archival mat under
UV glass with framed walnut cove molding. |

of a 16th century galleon under full sail, towing a dory. The
sails are framed by bright cumulus clouds in a blue sky. The
ship flies flags bearing the cross of St. George; the stern is
carved with the lion and unicorn English coat of arms with the
initials ER (for Elizabeth Regina). Unsigned work of the Brandywine
School. Overall dimensions: 31" W x 39" H. Framed in
a gold leaf molding style of the period. Circa 1925. |
